Wikinews is a website run by Wikimedia. It's a news site, but in wiki form. It's meant to be used by everybody to record breaking news, but in reality, nobody uses it.
History[]
In 2004, Wikipedia had a problem with people using it to post news stories. Wikipedia is meant to be an encyclopedia, not a news site. So Wikimedia created Wikinews, hoping that people would use it. However, nobody used Wikinews, and everyone just kept posting breaking news on Wikipedia. To this day, the Wikinews server is sitting there in Wikimedia's closet, waiting to be unplugged.
