Alright as many of you know, the UnAnything Wiki is in jeopardy. In this blog post I will explain to you how you can make an impact, and save the wiki from being closed. However I must mention this important disclaimer:
The Resistance and Blue Shift are just names to unify.
Nobody's a good guy, and nobody is a bad guy. We all have opinions and reasoning for why we want the wiki to be or not to be closed. Shouting at the other person they're wrong isn't mature. My blog post aimed towards people who want to help prevent this wiki from closing by proving constructive ways they can help.
It can also be good just stay on the fence if you don't have any strong feelings one way or the other.
Most important thing: don't overreact.
I know it's hard to take in this wiki might disappear, you might take it personal if you've been actively contributing or have made a bunch of articles you don't want to lose. This is not the end of the world. Drastic measures are not necessary and only makes The Resistance as a whole look bad. Words are a powerful tool, write calm and collected messages, keep everything you do or say reasonable. Tone is everything, and if what you say comes off as angry or frustrated, trust me when I say it's better not to send.
On another note, if you're concerned about articles you've written, make a backup on a personal wiki. You can always contact me if you have any trouble making backups of your articles.
Convey why you don't want this wiki to close.
What part of the wiki is most enjoyable to you? What does closure take away from you or others? Give Blue Shift (and any Fandom Staff who might see) a reason why this wiki shouldn't go. Be polite, be efficient, have a plan when explaining why you want this wiki to stay.
Don't say: "Please don't do this I have many articles I want to write! Where would I go after this? We can just fix it you don't have to do this!"
Do say: "This wiki's closure would deeply impact me as it provides a plethora of gaming and meme related of articles that I can link to in my future articles, without any red links. Non-fandom websites don't function properly, nor receives much traffic. This and alternatives wikis aren't suitable for what I wish to make or do. Furthermore, we a team could create maintenance projects to help improve the state of the wiki, just like in February 2019 when all the candidates for deletion were brought to a higher standard or deleted. Closure is not necessary."
The don't is emotionally charged and won't get anything done, only hurting the wiki's chances of staying. The do is a much better as it and less emotional and provides valid reasoning for why the wiki should not closed. It doesn't have to be as wordy as I put it, just has to be clear. Of course you don't have to say exactly what i've said, maybe talk about the friends you've made here, or the hilarious YTP articles that you enjoy, Maybe The Game would be too hard to port to another wiki and UnAnything being closed would lose it.
Make contributions!
Don't stop contributing because you think UnAnything is gonna be gone, it gives a reason to doubt why the wiki shouldn't be closed if this place were to become inactive, and that's what a Resistance member doesn't want! You can help UnAnything by doing any of the three things:
- Add relevant categories to pages
- Add pictures to pages
- Expand upon stubs
Getting the wiki into a better shape gives us a better shot in the battle to convince Fandom Staff not to close the wiki. All it takes is just one of those things, don't stretch yourself thin by fixing every stub or by writing everything because crunch is not needed. Fix what's already there, more articles right now aren't needed.
