Would you like to start an edition of UnAnything in your language? These basic steps are intended to provide an easy guide to setting up a localized wiki for UnAnything. There are four main stages to launching, that should take a total of between five and ten hours of work (depending on how fast a translator you are).
Don't[]
While it might sound fun to make a new language for UnAnything, chances are, it will never be as popular or complete as the English UnAnything Wiki. The French UnAnything Wiki, with the most support over the years, barely went anywhere, garnered no traction from the people of france, and got removed from the face of the Earth by Wikia Staff. The UnAnything name might get you some initial traction, but what you make might as well be a new wiki in its own right. Consider joining one of the Uncyclopedia localizations instead.
Get involved[]
Before starting on this epic journey, you must be signed in and be at least somewhat familiar to the people on this wiki. Notify us of your plans, and then preferably by "incubate" your new edition in Project:Language Projects, or add your ideas to Project:Other UnAnything versions. You may also want to be prepared to prove somehow you're competent in the language you wish to make an edition for.
Initial translations/localizations[]
The following is a list of the most essential pages, the basic framework of UnAnything in general relies on these 6 elements. Translate and localize these pages, and publish the resulting articles on this wiki. You can use subpages of your user page for that purpose, and link to these pages from your language section at Project:Other UnAnything versions. You may also want to start translating an initial set of articles (whatever that means).
- Main Page
- Category:Policy (This might take a while to fully do: you're free to simplify/omit stuff for now; establish an appropriate style-guide for the language at hand.)
- Captain 0
- Captain 1
- UnUniverse
You are advised to localize the name of the wiki itself, as UnAnything is a fairly anglocentric name that will not work for anything other than the Shakespearean edition. Be creative in naming the new wiki; have it make more sense than something what a "Not Anything" in English would be for example; make it feel like it belongs in that culture.
Go live[]
If the necessary translations have been completed, you can request the new language edition on Project:Other UnAnything versions.
Our Administrators will handle the rest and, typically, a new language wiki will be created within a week. Before any additions are made to the new edition, a request will be made to Fandom staff to add in the relevant interwiki links to the English version.
You will be granted bureaucratic access to that new language edition, and are heavily advised to start promoting an initial set of staff. Promote someone who can keep all the important CSS, JS, and template pages synced between the wikis. (If they're really in the know-how, they could maybe even add cross-language support for all templates via international transclusions.) Stay in contact with the community and your administrators, as both will be able to help you in case of further problems with your wiki.
Further translations[]
Invite a few friends and online acquaintances (perhaps people you know from other wikis) to help populate the initial pages of the new wiki. At this stage, the wiki is essentially functional, but it's mostly empty, and might be confusing to many visitors. You should now start translating other useful pages like these:
- UnAnything Wiki:Rules (complete translation if you opted to simplify)
- Articles about Undefeatables
- UnAnything Wiki:WANTED Articles
- Teletubbies
The MediaWiki User's Guide is a good place to get the appropriate material outside of UnAnything itself.
