UnAnything Wiki

Last Major Revision: 2024 July 22 - Templates must look good, and you can't make navboxes to group pages you make.

It is impossible to edit any wiki page without reading these guidelines first; you must follow them when editing. Violations will be forgiven if an offender corrects their mistakes without warning.

It should be clarified that UnAnything is a hybrid creative-writing/fan-fiction/satire/parody wiki, that these rules reflect those values.

Editing Don'ts[]

  • Make egregiously poorly formatted or mistake-ridden edits. (Warning, further punishments treated as Disruptive Editing)
  • Disruptive Editing: Destroying/ruining/defacing pages without doing anything of value, or making edits that can cause foreseeable drama. (Warning, further punishments treated as Vandalism)
  • Vandalize: Disruptive editing, with intent to harm. (12 hour ban, then a 3–7 day ban per page effected)
  • Create pointless or esoteric categories. (Warning, then a 6-12 hour ban per category)
  • Create pointless articles. (Warning, then a 1-5 day ban per stub)
  • Plagiarize, copying articles from other websites/wikis without giving proper credit. (Warning, then a 5-7 day ban per page effected)
  • Make articles that serve no purpose other than to basically rip off the official wiki. (Warning, then a 1-3 day ban per page effected)
  • Make blatant ripoffs of other articles. (Warning, then a 5-7 day ban per page effected)
  • Edit War: Fighting with users over the "correct version" of a page using editing tools. (7-14 day ban per campaign)
  • Points-game: Create pointless edits, comments or blogs, just to get rewards. (48 hour ban, then a 7-14 day ban)
  • Make unofficial Undefeatables. (Warning, then a 7-14 day ban per page effected)
  • Add or remove official status notices from an article, such as "strict protect", "regular protect", "wanted", "sacred", (etc.), unless given permission by UnAnything Staff, or are fixing a mistake. (Warning, then a 7-14 day ban per page effected)
  • Inappropriately add or remove notices of non-compliance from an article, such as "stub", "cleanup" and "delete". (Warning, then a 3-5 day ban per page effected)

Editing Responsibility Guidelines[]

  • You own and are responsible for pages you make.
  • You are responsible for making sure your edits comply with the rules.
  • You are not responsible for anyone else's edits to your pages.
  • You may not use ownership status to assert control or dominance over pages. This wiki is a collaborative effort.
  • If someone adds substantial content to your page, ownership will become shared.
  • After prolonged inactivity on a page (~1 year), you are no longer responsible for it.
  • You will always retain ownership and responsibility for your user page and its sub-pages. Nobody can edit these without your permission except those reverting vandalism, those with admin approval, those adding the "disabled account" template (and the account is disabled), those updating templates (whilst keeping the intent the same), or those ensuring rule compliance. Otherwise, offenders will be banned for 7-14 days per user page effected.
  • Administrators may appropriate your guides/tutorials for the wiki.
  • You may request pages you own to be removed. Please be aware that certain types of pages may not be eligible for removal, such as: redirect, category, template, or disambiguation pages.

Editing Style Guidelines[]

The following sets of guidelines are for well-structured and consistent writing on the wiki. Isolated/minor formatting errors are not typically cause for a ban. The persistent and deliberate disregard for these guidelines is, for 7-14 days.

Section 1

Applies to all pages, excluding your user page(s).

Page Contents[]

Formatting[]

  • Avoid excessive text styling (bold, italic, underline, big, small, color, spoiler).
  • Use bulleted/numbered lists appropriately. Line break lists may work too sometimes.
  • Lists with labels (e.g. "• Episode Name: Episode description") should have the "episode name" (the label) in bold if most items on the list are labeled. Exceptions may exist if the label is a link to another article.
  • Use headers to divide information. Do not bold these by default.
  • Link to existing pages appropriately.
  • Link to non-existent pages if there is a real/semi-real chance someone might make it in the future. Example: Luigi.
  • Do not use block quotes for indentation. Prefix the line with a colon in the source editor.
  • Do not use excessive paragraph breaks for extra spacing between content, or at the end of articles.
  • Ordinal indicators may or may not be superscript, however consistency should apply throughout the article.

Capitalization[]

  • Capitalize the first letter of all sentences. Capitalize the first letter in most lists and most infoboxes.
  • Capitalize proper nouns.
  • Do not capitalize nouns that are not proper nouns. This includes pronouns.
  • Do not capitalize the "the" before a proper noun. You may capitalize it if the proper noun cannot exist without the "the".
  • Capitalize positions of UnAnything staff.
  • You may break these capitalization rules if it is otherwise funny or contextually relevant.

Article Titles & Headers[]

  • Choose article names familiar to most readers.
  • Maintain consistent title or sentence casing for headers.

Redirects[]

  • Redirects are allowed for alternative names, untypeable names (like Infinity), plurality, disambiguation pages, page moves, usernames to user pages, for purposes that may otherwise benefit the wiki, and or as an execution of a joke. Anything else is not allowed.
  • Make sure your redirect actually works.
  • Don't add any categories to redirect pages.

Page moves[]

  • You may move pages if: 1) The current name is misleading or incorrect; 2) The new name is more commonly recognized or is "correct"; 3) The current name has an error that must be fixed; 4) The name is being pluralized/unpluralized; 5) You are moving it from your user-space, and it fits where it is going; 6) It could face deletion in its current state, and you (the owner) are moving it to your userspace; 7) It is a file; 8) You are reverting move-vandalism; 9) The current name is untypable; 10) You are changing plurality. Please contact an admin if you need to move a page for other purposes, or are renaming a large category.
  • Only use the page rename tool to move pages. Do not copy and paste content.

UnAnything Terminology[]

  • "Games" must be referred to as "shames", with related terminology such as "gaming" following suit with "shaming" (and such). Exceptions exist, such as for "UnAnything Wiki: The Game" or the "Angry Video Game Nerd".
  • Respect the usage of certain prefixes (e.g. UnWorld, WaWario, WoDoopsee). Do not add these where unnecessary or inappropriate.

Internationalization[]

  • Stick to a specific dialect of English (e.g., American, British, Australian) when writing for a page.
  • Maintain consistent units of measurement throughout the page.
  • Format dates in a way such that the month is obvious in both MM/DD/YYYY and DD/MM/YYYY formats. If unsure, write out the month name or use YYYY/MM/DD.

Media[]

  • Do not spam media on pages. You may only do this on milestone pages.
  • Make sure the media naturally fits within the article. (Recommended image widths: ~350 pixels for landscape and ~500 pixels for portrait.)
  • Use galleries or gallery pages for large collections of media.

Quotations[]

Plagiarism (continued)[]

  • Plagiarism is NOT tolerated.
  • Source/reference content responsibly. Contact admins if you wish to import articles from other wikis.
  • Use AI-generated content responsibly. Do not use AI to write new sections/paragraphs. AI images are permitted.

Miscellaneous[]

  • Don't include metatextual self-remarks (such as "I will finish this later!" or "This section needs more information.") within the page unless the remarks cannot be seen by the reader. This does not apply to templates placed in articles.

Section 2

Applies to articles and help pages.

Article Contents[]

  • Articles must be at least 1-2 paragraphs long, with exceptions being redirect pages, disambiguation pages, and gag/gimmick pages (like this space intentionally left blank).
  • Articles must be funny. If they are not funny, you will be deleted they will be deleted.
  • Media, lists, infoboxes, and quotes must maintain a balanced presentation with the text; these elements should not overly-dominate the article.

Article Titles & Headers[]

  • Bold the first mention of an article's name in the opening paragraph.
  • Use title case for article names, or sentence case when the article name is a sentence or phrase.

Categories[]

  • Add categories before or right after publishing a page.
  • Don't add any categories to redirect pages.

Templates[]

  • Use templates where appropriate.
  • Do not add the same joke template(s) to every page you write.
  • Prioritize templates logically and use common sense. (Icon-based templates should always be placed as the first elements of an article due to a bug)
  • Do not put purely helper templates directly on an article page. They are strictly for use inside other templates. If a page needs a template, create a template for it.

Character Creation Guidelines[]

  • Do not make character pages that are solely just compilations of accomplishments, alliances, powers, appearance, appearances, or other superficial aspects without meaningfully saying anything about the character itself. (Hint: If a character has no actual history/motivations, it is probably not a good article.)
  • Avoid creating overpowered characters. Limit the number and scope of powers.
  • Avoid characters that can magically convert villains/heroes.
  • Avoid making Wa-Guys that add nothing to the wiki.
  • Do not make wiki-altering characters.
  • Do not make characters which everyone must come together to defeat.
  • Do not make heroes/villains permanently kill off a bunch of other characters for no good reason.
  • Do not make guys get help from Undefeatables unless there's a very good reason for them to be involved.
  • Don't create unofficial Undefeatables without admin approval.

Miscellaneous[]

  • Do not excessively promote or link to certain pages when irrelevant.
  • Editors with a proven track record of completing articles may use the "Under Construction" template for pages that do not fully meet these guidelines. However, it's required that the article must be completed within 14 days of publication.

Section 3

Applies to talk pages, forums, blogs, user blogs, threads, message walls, boards, and topics. The editing rules do not apply to these types of pages; please see the Discussions Rules for the rules.

Section 4

Applies to categories and categorization.

Category Creation[]

  • Ensure new categories are written in sentence case.
  • Ensure new categories are not duplicates.
  • Ensure new categories are not overspecific.
  • Ensure new categories do not go against the general principles of this wiki.
  • Ensure new categories are themselves appropriately categorized.
  • A description for the category is not necessary, but is welcome.

Section 5

Applies to template pages.

Miscellaneous[]

  • Template names must be in Start Case (like how Queen from Deltarune talks). However, this isn't necessary if the a redirect exists at the correctly named page.
  • Do not create duplicate templates.
  • Template redirects must have the non-article template type.
  • Templates themselves must use American English.
  • Templates must look pretty and not contain any egregious errors in formatting, or clearly rip off another template's formatting.
  • Templates should have their template type be correct, with exception to the following rule.
  • Do not categorize notices that use the "notice" template as "Notice". Classify them as "Unknown" so that they display on mobile.
  • You cannot use navigation boxes to group all the pages that you made; that is not what they are for.
  • To confirm you've read these rules, put "Captain 0 is king" аnywhere in the еdit summаry ("dеsсribе what yоu сhаngеd") when saving any page, tо save your first еdit as a nеw соntributоr.

Categorization[]

  • Add categories to pages as appropriately as possible. Avoid miscategorizing pages: Bowser is not a bird, and shouldn't have the bird category.
  • Avoid using categories for unintended page types. Articles are separate from user pages, which are separate from templates, so on and so forth.

Section 6

Applies to "The:Game", "The:Quiz", and other such "The:" adventures and their respective paths.

Paths[]

  • Do not create linkless paths. All pages must have links that go somewhere else in the adventure or go back to the start.
  • You may not create any paths that promotes/lead to offensive or harmful actions, such as joining the Nazis or the KKK. The path will be deleted and the offender will be banned for engaging in discrimination.

Miscellaneous[]

  • You may move pages/page trees for purposes of restructuring. Please ensure all links go to the new path.

Section 7

Do not create pages with the "UnAnything Wiki:" prefix without administrator permission, or else you will be banned from editing these types of pages for 1 month.
