The Former Yugoslavia is a place in Europe where there are more independent countries than there are people. It became this way in the 90s after communism fell.
History[]
Before World War I, Yugoslavia was part of the Mushroom-Spartan Empire. After WWI, that country was carved up into several smaller countries, such as Ruritania and Czechoslovakia. Yugoslavia was one of the countries created.
During the inter-war period, Yugoslavia was unimportant. Hitler invaded it during World War II, but it regained its independence at the end of the war.
After WWII, Yugoslavia became Communist and genocided lotsa people. When the Cold War ended, Yugoslavia split apart into a bajillion countries with names like "Montenegro" and "Herzegovina".
Today, OVER 9000 new countries are created in this region each day. Most maps still display it as one country, because the countries that exist there are too small and transient in nature to accurately map.
