Tom Nuke after inventing rent.
Rent is a weird type of magic that users known as "Landlords" can do, usually once a month. It's when you have to give them some of your precious UnDollars in order to keep staying in your house. Rent is different from credit, in that with credit, you're just buying now and paying later. But with rent, you have to keep putting in a bit of money. Yeah, it's kinda complicated. It's a necessary evil, though.
The Invention of Rent[]
The first documented use of rent was in Nuketown, when the money-hungry Tom Nuke wanted to try stealing more munty from his villagers. So, while stroking his pi- I mean, in a stroke of genius, he decided to make up a little thing called rent. He ran up to one of the villagers and smacked them with a sheet of paper that said "RENT IS DUE!" and swiftly ran off. Confused, the villager checked his pockets, and found that all his bells were gone!
About a year later, a rat named Gregory was surfin' the web when he saw an article about rent being raised in Nuketown. He wasn't sure why he got recommended that article, especially when he only used the computer for taxes and anime. Probably the anime, if you ask me. Intrigued, Gregory decided to try pulling this stuff on some of the guests at his hotel. However, a few minutes later, he was laying on the floor in the Peter Griffin death pose with some broken teeth and a bloody nose after Judgment Boy got fed up with his crap. Needless to say, but Greg learned his lesson.
The Modern Era of Rent[]
As time went on, rent became less like theft and more like a job. New landlords emerged, like Nightmarionne, Bowser, and Tim (its free real estate), and bigger and better apartments and homes were erected. More people became tenants/guests/squatters, too, which meant more money all around. It was a good time to be in the business of rent (and kinda still is). Sure, it's slacked off a bit, but it's still goin' strong.
Trivia[]
- Rent exists in the Real World, too!
- You can avoid paying rent, but that is illegal, you know!
