A Horror Show is a psychological attack that can be inflicted by a user of magic. This sends the victim into a temporary state of shock and heightened fear, and usually is brought about with hallucinations. Horror Shows are often used as a way to destroy someone's will to fight, but there are other uses as well. It is less deadly than Giygas's Attack. There are several variants of a Horror Show, including the Thousand-Yard Stare (depicted here, sometimes known as a Two-Thousand Yard Stare) and the Panic Attack. The differences between these two and your ordinary Horror Show is that the Thousand-Yard Stare utilizes stress as opposed to fear, and a Panic Attack uses anxiety. A third variant, known as Mental BSOD, has been recently discovered, which uses depression as its primary emotional aura.
The Horror Show is also used as a torture method by several governments that have enlisted magical beings (and a certain gang that is comprised of a few of them). It's used in a way similar to waterboarding, to get answers out of the uncooperative. However, these tend to reduce people to tears as opposed to making them talk, so... The final thing you must know about the Horror Show is that it's relatively hard to learn. It uses concentrated mental energy, but also emotional energy, usually rage. This leads to the spell not working most of the time when you are an amateur at it. Experienced magicians have no problem with this, though, because they have a lot of skill.
Spell Variants[]
Pavlov's Stare in action
Cirno under the effects of a Horror Show. In particular, this is a Thousand-Yard Stare.
- Pavlov's Stare: A variant of the Thousand-Yard Stare that only affects dogs. This can be induced by placing food in front of a dog, but not allowing it to eat it. This spell can be done very easily by dog trainers, like Victoria Stilwell (shown doing it to an Australian shepard dog)
- Care Bear Stare: Another Thousand-Yard Stare variant, done specifically by Care Bears.
- Red Ring Of Death (RROD): A Mental BSOD variant that takes a physical toll on the body as opposed to a mental one.
- Freak Show: A variant of the normal Horror Show that happens when somebody who is a human attempts to use Freddy Freaker's Freak Phone.
Etymology[]
The term "Horror Show" was not widely used to describe this otherwise unnamed spell until the year 1999, when a documentary called Gregory Horror Show was released to the public, which featured a rat that not only owned a hotel, but could also do this, which is very cool. This rat, Gregory, was interviewed by the creators and said that it was some project he gave up on, but somebody stole it out of the garbage and repurposed it.
