Gensokyo is an ancient Japanese nation founded by a guy called the Sammer Guy to try to escape Evil Guy's fart wave. There are many trees here that have a fighting spirit, which is what attracts all the "ghost" things called Youkai here. It is the main setting of Touhou.

Only women are allowed to live here because Sammer Guy had 15 daughters and saw it as a sign that men (including himself) can go screw off, thus exiled all the men here into the ocean to become fish. Gensokyo is thus a popular retirement spot for lesbians.

The longest reigning tyrant of Gensokyo was Reimu Hakurei, who ruled for a couple of months.

Locations[]

  • Hakurei Shrine - A really big shrine that people worship Heavy with. They think he will bring him boolets so that everybody can shoot eachother to death. The only permanent outsider in the shrine is Vriska Serket because she's fixing the gears, but doesn't know how.
  • The Scarlet Devil Mansion - The generational family house of the Scarlet family. Occasionally, you can hear Ronald McDonald howling inside as Remilia's sister Flandre practices crazy bullet hell attacks, and on rarer occasions, Caramelldansen.
  • Human Village - A little Truman Show of a town where all the Master Mages go to let off steam by killing humans with natural disasters, just like the roblox shame.
  • Nameless Hill - A hill where Nameless went to play the piano after getting killed in the Velvet Room.
  • Moriya Shrine - Another tiny shrine.
  • The Myouren Temple - Magikarps and Wakasagihime live here. Its a place where you worship Cthulhu.
  • Youkai Mountain - A development created when Yo-kai Watch used unlegal intimidation tactics to force Flandre Scarlet to sell her UnOwen collection of properties. They're slowly carving the insides out and filling it with cheese like a New England style pizza. The Youkai eat the cheese.
  • The Forest of Magic - The place Marisa Kirisame lives. She shaped the terrain here to concentrate the flow of magic power through the ground to herself, which is why she is so powerful.
  • The Bamboo Forest of the Lost - There are many secrets in this forest, but unless you're Spamton or some other puppet you're not leaving with them. Peppino had to be teleported out by the shame master. Exiting the forest is very simple, all you just need to do is follow this simple path: ↑↑↓↓←→BA Start. You can quit to title screen from this.
  • Entei - A Pokémon who became a house. Lots of socks are kept here by Mama Luigi.
  • The Garden of the Sun - A weird pale-oak forest A replica of the sunhouse/conservatory from Family Guy, the one that never appears in the episodes. There are human-sized sunflowers here; some of them talk.
  • The Ancient City - The former palace of Sammer Guy and its surrounding city. It was once a tourist attraction until a volcano destroyed it.
  • The Palace of the Earth Spirits - A tiny castle where the tiny pathetic Youkai eep. It's so small that you can't see it, which is how none of the witches are ever able to get any of them. That was until the Youkai CineMassacre of 2003, when Spider-Man told them where the Youkai were.
  • Former Hell - A place where The Scarlet Devil used to angle her eggs.
  • The Netherworld - The new place to make angled eggs. You have to ask her sister Flandre Scarlet for access, and if she says no she cuts off your hands.
  • The Nuclear Furnace - A nuclear power-plant. Has melted down 16 times, but Jack Frost has cooled down the meltdowns. It was permanently shut down in 2030 when Jack Frost moved out of Gensokyo.
  • Squadala Embassy - The Squadala Empire is the only nation with an embassy in Gensokyo. It exists solely for the purpose of distributing Squadala Man's shames.
  • Higan - A place where the dead are judged. It's like an actual version of Hell.
