The Fire Flower is an evil flower that works for Mario and Luigi. It is known for its tendency to light things on fire. It is a dangerous object, and should be handled with extreme caution. Any stupidity could make you burst into flames. You have been warned

When Mario or Luigi grabs it, they upgrade, and become FIRE MARIO and FIRE LUIGI. They gain the ability to throw fireballs, and they can blow anything out of their path! If anyone else touches a fire flower, they burst into flames and/or explode.

Is it Fire?[]
For decades, ever since the Fire Flower was discovered in the Mushroom Kingdom, it's been debated whether the fireballs created by the Fire Flower when utilised by Mario and Luigi are actually made of pure flame. This is because, in the many Mario shames, the Fire Flower can be used underwater with no issue, and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to know that you can't use fire underwater.
Toadsworth once proposed that the fireballs created by the Fire Flower are actually created from small sparks of kinetic energy, fused with a physical manifestation of stupidity as a means of matter. Stupid things don't care about the rules because they can't read or understand them. Because of this, the fireballs can defy the laws of how water works. Stupidity could also be what drives the fireball to even believe it is a fireball. From it's composition, it isn't even really a ball of pure flame, either.
Where Does All that Stupidity Come From?[]
Adding onto Toadsworth's proposed theory, a Koopa once suggested that the stupidity comes from the user of the fire flower, as relying on such an overengineered, inefficient method of dealing with one's opposition would be indicative of their low intelligence. In other words, You, yes you, are able to shoot fireballs when you get the Fire Flower because you're stupid for making the shame easier. "Shame" on you!
I'm just kidding. That Koopa was immediately shot with a fireball and he DIED as a result. So who cares what he thinks?
