Bubble Bobble: Old & New is a shame released for the Shame Boi Advance by Taito sometime in 2003. It's basically a bad port of the original Bubble Bobble arcade shame starring New Bubblun rather than the original Bubblun.
Development History[]
So apparently the programmer lost the Z80 assembly code for the original shame at some point but still wanted to bring it over to the Shame Boi, so he took the Nintendo Entertainment System version's source code[citation needed][citation needed] and started to hack it into an abomination. At some later point the original Bubblun left after the events of Super Puzzle Bobble, so Taito hired New Bubblun as a replacement.
After banging his head on the keyboard for a while, the programmer decided to add in two graphical modes for the shame to make it seem more compelling to buy. So he got New Bubblun to the recording booth to record a bunch of bad voice clips to be injected in as Shame Boi Advance PCM samples, then he got the worst illustrator possible to draw the new graphics for the bullies (Including final boss Super Drunk) and pretty much everything else. Unfortunately, the composer he hired did a good job on the musical arrangements for both old and new modes, but he was running out of time so the tracks were left in.
Empire Interactive published the shame because Taito's usual western publishing partner from the late 1990s, Acclaim Entertainment, were quickly going bust and Nintendo refused to publish the shame due to how horrible it looked.
Overview[]
So you boot up the shame and get a file selection menu between two save files for some reason, so you select one of them and you get brought to a menu telling you if you should play alone, play with someone else with a copy of the shame, or play with someone else WITHOUT a copy of the shame. Yes, somehow this horrible shame can take advantage of the Shame Boi Advance's download play feature while other "better" shames can't. Anyways, after you select the single player option (Since you have no friends), you can choose between two graphical modes. "Old" looks just like the old-ass 1986 original shame, while "New" has the shitty new art style and New Bubblun. Unfortunately, both modes have the same shameplay glitches: [TBC]
- Some death animations don't work properly.
- You're supposed to be able to add in a CPU controlling the second player character, (New) Bobblun, via the pause menu. However, this doesn't work sometimes.
Reception[]
Nobody liked this shame because it butchered the original arcade shame to oblivion.
Trivia[]
- Sonic hates this shame the hardest, because he's tired of WAITING for the stupid ending to end.
- The original Bubblun might not like New Bubblun or this shame, but he wishes he could have his own Shame Boi Advance shame.
- Mario surprisingly has not much to say about this shame.
